    The magnetic field on the earth surface caused by a magnetic dipole on the interface between the mantle and core has been used to examine validity of rectangular harmonic analysis (RHA) in the study of regional magnetic field. Results show a satisfied stability of magnetic configuration when truncation level is equal to or less than 4. Five representations of the earth's magnetic field have been reviewed and compared.
