In Romania, one of the first objectives in the apricot breeding program was to obtain new varieties with a late blooming time induced by a longer dormancy of the flower buds and correleted with a better resistance to temperature fluctuations early in the spring. The main method of the apricot brceding in Romaia is cross breeding. The main genitors used in the breeding program were as follows: Meilleur d'Honqrie, Ananas and Tirzii de Bucuresti valued for their good fruit quality and high production. The character transmitting genitors-De silvestra and Re Umberto (clone 305) were used for their late blooming time. In the first working stage (1950-1957) diallel hybridizations between these varieties had been done and in the second stage (1957-1968) different types of hybridizations between F、selections (inbreeding and backcrossing), recuient selections, etc. were carried out. For the hybrids quality test the following points were taken into account: beginning and ending of blooming time, ripening season, weight and fruit size, soluble solids content, flesh/pit ratio and the taste. The new apricot varieties obtained until 1980 were: Mamaia (It is very resistant frost during the flower buds swelling and blossoming)、Selena (The blossoming time is late and the flower buds are resistant to late winter temperature fluctuations, It is also resistant to Monilinia and Clasterosporium)、Venus (It is high production and numerous spurs)、Pionier、etc.

( 4 )general combining ability has a significant positive correlation with the performance of parental characters. General combi-ning ability among some different characters also has a significant corre-lation. (5)according to the data from 30 F1 hybrid, the early harvest of 93% combination surpass the mid-parents value. 77% combinations outyield parents with the high harvest.
