The effect of tartaric acid, citric acid, oxalic acid and ammonium fluoride on the formation of the ternary Ta(V)-H_2O_2-PAR complex has been studied in detail. In these complexing agents, it has been observed that only suitable addition of tartaric acid is advantageous to spectrophotometric measurement of Ta(V), because it would increase the stability of complex ranging from pH 4 to 7. The effect of tartaric acid, citric acid, oxalic acid and ammonium fluoride on the formation of the ternary Ta(V)-H_2O_2-PAR complex has been studied in detail. In these complexing agents, it has been observed that only suitable addition of tartaric acid is advantageous to spectrophotometric measurement of Ta(V), because it would increase the stability of complex ranging from pH 4 to 7. A method for spectrophotometric determination of tantalum in tartaric acid medium at wavelength 530nm and pH 5.6 with ternary Ta(V)-H_2O_2-PAR complex is recommended. The interference of 18 cations has been examined individually under selected conditions using the CyDTA, NTA and sodium hexametaphosphate as masked agents. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range 0~9 μg Ta/ml and the molar absorptivity is 4.1×10~4 at 530 nm and pH 5.6. The composition of the complex corresponding to [Ta (O_2)_2PAR]~- has been established by several methods, namely, the isomolar series, the shifting equilibrium, the ternary phase diagram and the electrophoresis methods. The apparent stability constant has been caloulated to be 5.9×10~5. The method is proved applicable to the determination of Ta in ore; the procedure is simple and the precision is ±7%.

Hydroxyethylcellulose (pseudoplastic flow) as a suspending agent produced better fluidity as well as better redispersibility on aging.Most of the barium sulfate suspensions (130%) were of the dilatant flow type. Suspensions containing methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, tragacanth and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (0.1, 0.2, 0.15 and 0.3%) exhibited thixotropic properties, but did not form thixotropic gels.It was found that proper combined use of electrolytes in suspensions (1% sodium hexametaphosphate 0.8~1.2% sodium citrate)resulted in thixotropic gels, which turn to sols with good fluidity on shaking.Gastric fluid flocculating resistance of barium sulfate suspensions were studied by sedimentation method. Gastric fluids of different pH obtained from patients were mixed with barium sulfate suspensions and sedimentation curves were produced on an automatic recording sedimentation balance (KCY type). The results showed that:1. Suspensions containing sodium hexametaphosphate are more stable than those containing sodium citrate whatever suspending agents were used.2. Gastric fluid of pH 8 (alkalinity due to back-flow of the duodenal fluid) do not cause flucculation, on the other hand the gastric fluid of pH 1~2.5, caused remarkable flocculation.

The apparent molar absorptivity for zinc and cadium is 1. 24x10~5 at 560nm and 1.29x10~5 at 580nm respectively, and the sensitivity is 0.0005ug Zn/cm~2 and 0.00087ug Cd/cm~2 for absorbance of 0.001.The absorbances of colour development were constant over the pH range from 8.5-9.5(?)in borax buffer solution. As a result of the continuous variation method, mole ratio and slope ratio method, the compositions of the complexes were estimated to be all 1:2 (Zn, Cd:R). Simultaneous determination of zinc and cadium in some ores, metals and water has been established. The following procedure was recommended: a sample solution containing each of the above metals in the concentration range of 0-10 μg was taken in a 25-ml volumetric flask and, then, 0.5ml sodium hexametaphosphate (1%),5ml sodium citrate (40%, w/v), 2.5ml saturated borax solution,0.5ml colour reagent (0.04% in alcohol) and 1ml Tween -80 (1%) were put onto in turn, dilute to the mark with water. Measure the absorbance of mixed Zn and Cd against the reagent blank. Add about 80mg to residual solution, and remeasure absorbance of the Zn, cadium by difference,The coefficent of variation was 7.2%.
