Methods A model of coma is made by means of stereotaxical electrolytic injuury of midbrain reticular formation in cats, and which then was treated by YM 14673 at high or low dosage. Conscious status of cats and electrophysiological activities and ultrastructural changes were investigated. Results The experiments showed that YM 14673 has improvement effects on the recovery of unconsciousness caused by midbrain injury in cats, which could show as transient behavioral arousal and EEG arousal. Ultrastructural study demonstrated that YM 14673 can increase the number of mitochondria and synaptic vesicles in neurons. Conclusion YM 14673 has improvement effects in the recovery of coma caused by midbrain injury. The possible mechanism may be related with the increased activity of mitochondrion in neurons. YM 14673 may have a good expectation in clinical use.

The expression of NGF and HSP70 mRNA was investigated by in situ hybridization. Brain function was studied with neurological deficit scores. Results The study showed that the different midbrain injury could enhance the expression of NGF mRNA and HSP 70 mRNA in early phase following injury,it might be related with its compensation, autoprotection and repairment. Midbrain injury could induce apoptosis and the peak of apoptosis was in 48~72 hours after injury. The time of changes was correlated with the neurological deficit scores.Conclusions The expression level of NGF and HSP 70 mRNA following midbrain injury may be reflect the severity of injury and the ability of its compensation and repairment. Apoptosis was the important index of delayed warsening after brainstem injury.

Objectives:To observe the correlation of electroencephalogram (EEG ), brainstem auditory auditory evokedpotential (BAEP) and somatosensory evoked potential(SEP)dynamic changes to the degree of midbrain injury and thedisturbance of conciousness after midbrain injury in cats. Method: Three kinds of different intensity of direct currentwere used to produce the different severity lesions in midbrain reticular formation stereotaxically.The dynamic changesof conscious status, EEG, BAEP and SEP in cats were monitored closely so as to investigate the correlation of theirregularity to the injury of midbrain reticular formation. Results: Following the injury of midbrain reticular formation,the EEG, BAEP and SEP of cats chang regularly with the development of conscious status. These changs are in accordancewith the severity of midbrain damage and conscious status. Conclusion: After midbrain reticular formation injury,the consciousness, EEG, BAEP, and SEP might show regular change, which could reflect the severity of midbraininjury and the prognosis of conscious status, and might be of guidance significance for the clinical practice.

目的:研究中脑损伤后猫脑电图(EEG)、脑干听觉诱发电位(BAEP)和体感诱发电位(SEP)的动态变化及了解其与损伤程度和意识障碍之间的关系及意义。方法:用三种不同强度的直流电立体定向电解损毁猫中脑网状结构造成不同程度的损伤,动态监测猫意识、EEG、BAEP和SEP的变化,研究其变化规律与中脑网状结构损伤和意识的关系。结果:中脑网状结构损伤后随着猫意识障碍的恶化与恢复,EEG、BAEP和SEP相应地发生变化,且与损伤程度和意识障碍变化一致。结论:中脑网状结构损伤后猫意识、EEG、BAEP和SEP发生规律性变化,可以反应中脑损伤和意识障碍的程度和转归,对临床有指导意义。
