A compound catalyst of kalium sulphate and iron protosulphate is studied in oxidation and reduction atmospheric conditions in a pressurized fixed bed differential reactor with four types of gas coal as feed coals. Activity of this catalyst in oxidation conditions is superior to kalium sulfate or iron protosulphate when they are used separately, and good results are obtained when high ash and high sulphur coal is gasified. In reduction conditions, activity of this catalyst is not only better than that of kalium sulphate and iron protosulfate, but also selectivity of methane is better than kalium carbonate. It has a marked catalytical effect on low ash coal or low ash high sulphur coal. However, the high ash coal will passivate the catalyst. When steam is used as a gasifying agent, the main constituents of gas product are CO_2 and CO(H_2), when H_2 or H_2/H_2O is used as a gasifying agent, the main constituents of gas product are CO and CH_4.

Dongsheng-shenmu coal is a kind of long-flame coal which contains low ash and sulfur. It is difficult to use this kind of coal for making metallurgical coke. In order to make use of this coal in Baotou Steel and Iron Corporation, the test of coking was carried out with 7 kg and 200 kg coking oven. Then,it was tested in 4 batteries of coking plant to blend 5% Dongsheng-shenmu coal with more than 55% strong caking coat for 78 days in 1989. It is proved that quality of the coke can meet the requirement of production for blast furnace.

东胜-神木煤是低灰、低硫的长焰煤,在生产上直接配煤炼焦使用有一定的技术难度。为使这种煤能在包钢得到应用,在试验室7kg焦炉和200kg焦炉上进行了炼焦试验。1989年在配用55%以上粘结性煤的条件下,进行了78天四座焦炉直配5%东胜煤的生产试验,所产焦炭全部用于两座1513m~3高炉和一座1800m~3高炉生产。试验证明所产焦炭能满足高炉生产要求。
