    This paper describes the evaluation of safety of builtings designed in accordance with relevant provisions of current aseismie design code in China. The procedure of the basic evaluation is outlined and illustrated through several examples. Failure probabilities of building structur as, both in elastic and inelastic ranges, were calculated by means of step-by-step integration method, using a set of design earthquake ground motions, compatible with standard response spectrum. The evaluation of safety was based on the comparison between the failure probability in the elastic c esign and that in the inelastic design. A reasonable approach to the determination of structural influence coefficients is also suggested in this paper.

    Some comparison results from an aseismic analysis of several largearch dams is presented by the response spectral method and the time his-tories method. These arch dams are Xianghongdian, Dongjiang and Ertan.The design earthquake intensity for these dams was MMⅧ. The presentedresults are discussed.
