This study was conducted with high-yielding wheat cultivars grown in theLower Yangtze Valley for two years on the Experimental Farm of NanjingAgricultural College.The experiment was designed as a randomized block designwith four replications,six cultivars during 1980—1981 and three replications,eight cultivars during 1981—1982.The data obtained from all characters werestatistically analysed.The broad-sense heretability estimates were high for plant height,the num-ber of spikelets per spike and 1,O00-kernal weight;intermediate for the num-ber of grains per spike,spikes per plant and grains per spikelet and low for grain weight per plant and spike,the number of spikes and grains per metersection of row,and grain yield.The genetic variation coefficients of 1,000-grain weight,number of spikes per plant and grains per spike were high andthose of spikelets per spike,grain weight per plant,grain yield and numberof grain per spikelet were intermediate or low.Correspondingly,their relativegenetic advances ranged from high to low.The genotypic correlation coefficien-ts were higher than phenotypic correlation coefficients and correlation coef-ficients between grain yield and all other characters were not singnificant inthis study.The yield components were apparently negtive correlation betweeneach other.The path-coefficient analysis,however,indicated that all yieldcomponents had positive direct effects on the yield except the number of spikethat had a negative direct effect on yield during 1981—1982.In comparisonwith the efficiency of selection for grain yield alone,the efficiency from theuse of selection index including grain yield and two yield components washigher.The results obtained in this study showed that in the Lower Yangtze Val-ley,to develop new varieties with much higher yielding potential on the basisof the current types of high-yielding varieties,the increase of the number ofgrains and 1,000-kernal weight should be effectual,and it seems more rea-sonable to take the number of grains per unit area as a criterion of selection.For such complex characters as grain yield that heretability is low,the selec-tion for multiple characters including yield itself and one or two yield com-ponents should give a reliable effect.

通过籼粳稻杂交再复交,按照理想株形的要求进行选育,育成了“沈农1033”。经过大面积的试验试种表明,“沈农1033”具有(1)株形好而抗稻瘟病;(2)适于密植而分蘖力强;(3)耐旱力强;(4)温光反应弱,因而适应地区较广;(5)高产而食味又较好等特点。因此“沈农1033”的育成在水稻育种上说明了(1)理想株形育种是水稻高产育种的有效途径;(2)不仅株形好和抗稻瘟性可以结合在一起,高产和食味好也可以结合在一起。
