This paper emphasizes the necessity of students' language using competence training on the basis of analyzing the graduates' and undergraduates' English language using competence and studying relevant materials, and makes it clear that language using competence should be put in the most important position in college English teaching. The relation between the language using competence and the test performing competence of the students are also analyzed. Some new ideas of students' language using competence training in the four language skills are presented.

本文在分析了我院大学生和大学毕业生的英语语言运用能力以及研究了相关材料的基础上,强调语言运用能力培养的必要性,明确提出语言运用能力培养应放在大学英语教学的首要位置上,同时分析了语言运用能力与应试能力的关系,提出了培养学生在读、听、写、说四个方面语言运用能力培养的一些新观点。

Standardized test now widely used in English teaching and examination in China'shigher and secondary education has its own merits and defects.This paper is aninitial discussion on this issue by reviewing the teaching practie.The merit-defectanalysis of this test form leads to the suggestion that a multiple form of exercises andtests should be adopted with the focus laid on the actual improvement of the students'language capability and the reinforcement of their competence in using English.

Recenly, linguistic competence is ignored in intensive reading because of the influence of communicative approach. Further more the preparation for the CET4 dependson doing many multiple choice exercises instcad of taking some essential language training.This has bad effects on the students language proficiency on which the communicativecompetence is based. Some ideas are discussed in this essay about the teaching of intensivereading in such kind of institute as Kunming institute of Technology.

目前,由于交际教学法和大学四、六级英语考试的影响,在精读课的教学中出现了忽略语言知识的传授,只注重语篇教学、以题海战术代替必要的语言基本功训练的倾向。本文就我院这种非重点理工科院校的精读课教学提几点管窥之见。
