In this paper, a method,which is called photoelastic computed tomography, for measuring the axial residual stress profile of PM fibers is introduced. The measuring principle of the phase difference due to the stress of PM fibers is analyzed in detail. The automatical measuring equipment based on the photoelastic computed tomography has been describbed. It shows us how to get fiber orientation,data collection and stress profile reconstruction under the control of a computer. Here, photodiode array is used as photodetector. In addition,a BowTie PM fiber is measured and the results are given.
