The magnetic properties and Ferromagnetic resonance of the yttrium-lanthanum iron garnet system Fe5O12 were investigated at the compositions corresponding to x=0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00. The single-phase region with garnet structure determined by the X-ray powder pattern analysis and metallographic observations extends to about 0.10

The magnetic properties and Ferromagnetic resonance of the yttrium-lanthanum iron garnet system Fe5O12 were investigated at the compositions corresponding to x=0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00. The single-phase region with garnet structure determined by the X-ray powder pattern analysis and metallographic observations extends to about 0.10g-factors geff and resonance line-width△H (at 3970 and 9160 Mc) were measured as a function of composition. The variation of σs with composition and the magnitude of σ0 as viewed from various magnetization mechanisms were discussed. From the frequency dependence of geff, the intrinsic g-factors and internal fields Hi of the materials were calculated. Exponential dependence of AH, H; and Hc on x in certain composition region was observed experimentally and interpreted from the point of view of magnetic inhomogene-ities.

The effect of heat treatment on the ferromagnetic resonance of lutecium iron garnet (Lu3Fe5O12 or Lu I G) and manganese ferrite single crystals is investigated. Although the effect of heat treatment on the △H of Lu IG is small, the AH of manganese ferrite increases several times after each treatment. The causes of the variation of △H with heat treatment are discussed. Meanwhile, X-ray diffraction patterns show that some α-Fe2O3 precipitates in the manganese ferrite sample after it is subjected to heat treatment.

The parameters in the generalized effective Spin-Hamiltonian are calculated. It is found that the g-factor in the modified term results from the contribution of the fourth order perturbation, and its order of magnitude is about 10-5. The effective Hamiltonian which is used to describe the R line of ruby was obtained.
