Using hydro-fracturing method, absolut stress measurements are made in the depth range of 400-4,000 m for the sedimentary rock areas in northern-, southern-,northeastern- and northwestern China. Result obtained shows stress distribution in China is characterized by high values in the southern and low values in the northern areas of China, and that within the northern areas of China, high and low values are respectively observed for the eastern and western sub-regions.Horizontal principal stress in the upper crust of China is due to the weight of the overburden rock beds themselves, the crustal temperature field as well as the compression of the plates. Influences on the crustal stress by the temperature field and the crustal weight itself are linear functions of depth and are homogeneous and isoplethic in all directions. Under common conditions, crustal temperature shows higher gradient and the crust has thinner thickness in localities with higher crustal stress values. The orientation of the stress field is chiefly determined by the driving effects of the plates surrounding the continent. This paper emphatically studies the influences on stress distribution due to different actions by respective plate boundaries. Result of the study shows the Indian plate mostly produces horizontal thrust effects, whereas the Pacific and Phillipine oceanic plates exert underthrust effects with varied underthrusting depth. Stress values for various regions are associated with the distances from those regions to the plate boundaries, and these values tend to decrease along with the distance increases.

本文根据水压致裂法,对中国大陆的华北、华南、东北和西北等沉积岩地区,进行了四百米至四千米深度范围的绝对应力测量。结果表明,我国应力分布特点呈现南部高、北部低的趋势,而在中国北部则呈现东高、西低的状态。地壳上部的水平主应力是上覆岩层自重、地壳温度场和板块挤压三种作用的结果。温度场和地壳自重对地应力的影响是深度的线性函数、是均匀的、各向等值的。一般情况下,地应力值高的地方,地温梯度值高,地壳厚度较薄。但应力场的方向主要取决于大陆周围板块的驱动作用。本文着重探讨不同板块边界的不同作用方式及其对应力分布的影响。结果表明,印度洋板块以平推作用为主,太平洋板块和菲律宾海板块以俯冲作用为主,但俯冲深度有所不同。各地区的应力值与该区到板块边界的距离有关,随距离增大而减小。

The two methods for measuring geostresses, the hole-wall strain-gauge method and the hydro-fracturing method, are described briefly; and their applications to a pumped storage power station and measured results are also expounded. And the measured results of geostresses at an underground powerhouse and its high-pressure bifurcations, are analyzed and compared in detail.
