The materials in current use remain to be diversified and better proportioned in the selection of subject matter. Students' lack of background knowledge has handicapped their comprehension. Their basic language skills are still insufficient. There seems to be a gap between this course and the previous extensive reading course. Therefore, the selected materials of this course should be readjusted. Teaching methods should be improved with an emphasis on the development of students' ability. Knowledge of the extensive reading course should be collected. A new and better curriculum system needs to be built as well.

英语时文选读课具有材料选取面宽、内容新、综合性强、实用等特点。问卷调查表明,该课程颇受学生欢迎,教材难度和阅读量适当,教学效果今人满意;同时也暴露出诸多问题,如现行教材在题材多样化和不同题材的调配上仍有待改进,学生知识不足制约其阅读理解能力,语言基本功尚有漏洞,时文课与此前的泛读课不能自然衔接等。因此,时文课应进一步完善课程选材,改进授课方法,注重能力的培养和提高,加强与泛读课的联系和交流。专业课程设置体系也有待改进。

Pragmatic competence, a key factor of communicative competence, refers to the ability of language using during communications. It consists of the pragmatic competence of language itself and the social pragmatic competence.
