Comparisons of biomass time series data on 17 species populations of the desert rodents inhabiting the experimental study site in the Chihuahuan Desert are presented. Time series analysis, Shannon index of evenness and seasonality index are used for assessing allocation patterns of the total community biomass among 17 species populations and the role of dispersal in the patterns.The results suggest that two dominant species,Dipodomys merriami and D. spectabilis,played significant role in stabling the community total biomass and other non-dominant species subsidized community biomass when biomass of the dominants was low. Dispersal, one of the conspicuous traits of life history of desert rodents, contributed to the patterns and played an important role in the coexistence of 17 species.

In summer, the locations of 9 communities on the second ordinate axis (informationwas 36.9%)of DCA was positive correlation with the vegetation coverage, plant height,soil moisture content and soil hard+degree(r=0. 86, p<0.01; r=0. 6, p<0. 05; r=0. 75,p<0. 01;r=0. 82, p<0. 01 respectively).In autumn,the locations of 6 communities on the first ordinate axis (information was 59.8%)of DCA was significantly negative correlation with the soil moisture content(r=-O.86,pdesert rodents in Anxi, further-more, water was the most important determinant.

By using the method of cluster analysis,rodent community structure and succession of the primary,secondary and artificial landscape in the southern fringe of Zhungeer Basin were studied according to the rodent community structure characteristics in Hutubi cow breeding farm.The results indicated that the rodent community in this area could be divided into four types.Because of the change of desert turning into artificial landscape,the major desert rodent species Marmota sibilica and Gerbillus graduolly replaced with M.usculus,C.migratorius and A.syluaticus. In recent years, R.noruegicus has tended to spread primary landscape in the southern fringe of Zhungeer Basin.
