Comparing 35 records from on site investigation of pile foundation settlement in the saturated soft clay ground in Shanghai,this article demonstrates that the settlement of bored pile foundation is smaller than that of the driven pile foundation when the conditions are similar. And the mechanism causing the difference is also analyzed based on the concept of negative frictional resistance.
