This subject, from the view point of the entirety of environment and regarding the landforms as an element of the man-nature environment, makes a study into the theory and application of the influence of landform on the environment;3. On the basis of traditional methods, advanced technology and ideas, this subject is applied in the production, construction and environmental management in the form of various geomorphological maps and plans; and4. The urban geomorphology, which deals with human metamorphism of the urban ecosystem, is the newest major branch of the environmental geomorphology.

Urban expansion and rapid forest decrease are two tendencies as human society has developed up to present. A city is artificial environment separated from the nature by mankind. Urban ecosystem is a synthetic body which is composed of natural part and artificial one, and green vegetation occupies an important place in this unique artficial ecosystem. The new subjects which have been brought to foresters by these two tendencies are improvements on the exsiting enviroment of mankind.

城市膨胀,森林锐减,是人类社会发展到今天的两种趋势。城市是人类从自然环境中分离出来的人造环境,城市生态系统是由自然和人工两部分组成的综合体;绿色植被在这个独特的人工生态系统中占有重要位置。研究城市生态,探索城市林业,改善人类生存环境,是这两种趋势向林业工作者提出的新课题。
