In the third part concerning sentence structure , facters touched upon are such as parallel structures, rhetorical questions etc. that contribute to the coherence of discourse. The last part discusses the cohesive function of discourse markers in connecting paragraphs and the spatial distribution of markers in adjusting the rhythm of discourse development as a whole.

本文试尝用语篇学理论从审美的角度对语言的各个层面包括语音、词汇、句子和段落的衔接手段和连贯特点加以分析。全文分为四部分:第一部分讨论英语语音中的头韵、韵脚等形式的衔接和连贯以及美学效果。第二部分对词汇链和产生的语义连贯及其审美效果进行了探讨。第三部分涉及由句子的并列结构、反诘问句等衔接手段构成的语义接续或递进以及它们形成的连贯气势和动态的美感。文章最后对语段衔接的重要手段——标识语的组篇功能和空间跨度以及该跨度形成的变化节奏进行了分析。
