Investigation have been made on the mechanism for monomer removal from latex by stripping. Experiments show that this complex process involving several mass transfer steps is controlled by the step in which monomer deffuses from the interion of a particle to its surface and across the solidliquid interface: Based on this mechanism, the process conditions of the stripping were selected. The simplified physical model of the process was suggested and the mathematical model was derived theoretically. An empirical correlation obtained from the experimental data is exactly consistent with the model derived. This model was applied to several kinds of latices and to several types of stripping equipments. It is proved that this model is satisfactory for the simulation of the latex stripping processes. The method for studing and designing latex stripping process was proposed in terms of the stripping rate constant defined in the paper.
