A periodic field formed with three or five lens elements can be used as an image-forming lens in ion-optics. Generally, it possesses much stronger focusing ability than a single lens element under the same voltage ratio. Periodic field lenses have been used as initial focusing systems of ion sources in some electrostatic accelerators, yet its image-forming characteristics have not been fully studied.

The concentric spherical electro-magnetic focusing system as an imaging system was described at the Second Symposium on photo-electronic Image Devices, but was not fully discussed; up to now the analytic solution for the electron trajectories in this system hasn't been given. In this paper, the concentric spherical electro-magnetic focusing system together with three other systems, namely, the electro-magnetic focusing system using parallel homogeneous magnetic and electric fields, the concentric spherical electrostatic focusing system and proximity focusing system are studied, the analytic solution for "paraxial" trajectories, the focusing condition and the spherochromatic aberrations are given, and the concentric spherical electrostatic focusing system with spherical mesh and the electro-magnetic focusing system with planar mesh using parallel homogeneous magnetic and electric fields are also discussed.

According to the theory of the cathode lens, the formulas of monochromatic electron-optical transfer function(ETF) and of multichromatic ETF under Beta and Maxwell distributions are derived from the formula of first order lateral aberration. Considering the effects of spectral distributions of incident light and photocathode response, the ETF's formula for multicolour light is also given, if the system's object surface is a photocathode. According to the theory of the cathode lens, the formulas of monochromatic electron-optical transfer function(ETF) and of multichromatic ETF under Beta and Maxwell distributions are derived from the formula of first order lateral aberration. Considering the effects of spectral distributions of incident light and photocathode response, the ETF's formula for multicolour light is also given, if the system's object surface is a photocathode. These formulas including off-focus parameters can be used to study the ETF's off-focus properties in the image space of the cathode lens. For sharp-focusing system, the expressions for the position of optimum image plane and its corresponding ETF are also given. It has been proved that by substituting the corresponding off-focus parameter the above formulas can be-used to describe the ETF of proximity system. And still simpler approximate formulas of ETF are obtained. Furthermore, the expressions for rms values of first order lateral aberration and the relationship-between the low frequency ETF and the current density distribution function of a point image are derived s o as to make the ETF organically related with other parameters of image quality.

本文根据阴极透镜理论,从一阶横向象差公式出发,分别导出了单色的、全色的以及多色光作用下的电子光学传递函数(以后简记为ETF)公式。这些公式均可用来研究阴极透镜象空间ETF的离焦特性。文中还对锐聚焦系统给出了最佳归一化离焦量的表达式和相应的ETF近似公式。分析表明,只需代入相应的离焦量,阴极透镜的诸ETF公式还可以用来表示双平面近贴系统的ETF。此外,还导出了其他公式,使ETF与阴极透镜其它象质参数有机地联系起来。
