Low temperature plasma technology consists of hot plasma technology and cold plasma technology.It is characterized by wide application,high speed, good efficiency and no second pollution in treatment of liquid wastes.Its advantages and superiority are more obvious especially for treatment of refractory and toxic liquid wastes.It is considered as one of the most promising environmental pollution control technologies in the 21 st century.The progress in the research and application of low temperature plasma technology for treatment of liquid wastes is summarized with the focus on the analysis of degradation principle of refractory organic liquid wastes by cold plasma technology.The existing problems of the two technologies are discussed and the future research orientation is pointed out.

The paper summarizes the progress,such as disposing of greenhouse gases,resolving poisonous gases,deviating sulfur and saltpeter by cold plasma as well as the application by hot plasma in the field of disposing of contamination.The prospect of its application is also presented.
