It is shown that there is the mode-conversion between the fast wave and ion Bernstein wave near the ionion hybrid resonance and the first cyclotron harmonic fora multi-ion plasma. The dispersion relation near the mode-conversion layer significantly depends on kH,species concentration,and plasma density....

In this paper, the ICRF fast wave mode-conversion and correlative damping mechanism in an inhomogeneous hot plasma are investigated for the configuration of tokamak by using the kinetic theory. It is shown that there is the mode-conversion between the fast wave and ion Bernstein wave near the ionion hybrid resonance and the first cyclotron harmonic fora multi-ion plasma. The dispersion relation near the mode-conversion layer significantly depends on kH,species concentration,and plasma density. The fast wave energy absorption and its localization can be substantially improved by appropriate choices of these parameters. However no mode-conversion occurs in a one-ion plasma.

A simulation code for steady-state or quasi-steady state lower hybrid current drive is developed which is based on the complete Bonoli-Englade simulation model. It contains equilibrium calculation, toroidal ray tracing and Fokker-Planck calculation. Shafranov equillibrium model was used and hot plasma electromagnetic wave dispersion relation was included in it. Two-dimensional effect resulting from high perpendicular temperature due to pitch angle scattering and relativistic effect were included in Fokker-Planck calculation. The code can repeat the numerical results demonstrated in previous literatures. Combining with a grill antenna code, we completed the static simulation of LHCD (not including field evolution and transport process) during the real lower hybrid power injection, and microscopic physics picture of LHCD such as wave propagation, power deposition, driven current and current drive efficiency were obtained. The computation results relevant to the HL-1 experiments are presented. The computation results for Alcator C and HL-1 parameters are in good agreement with those of the experiments. The numerical results would be helpful to understand the LHCD physics, to analyze the experimental data and would be important for improving the LHCD efficiency.
