This paper deals with some problems on applied optimum theory and methods employed both at home and abroad in the design of the antenna structures in recent years. It includes two different algorithms for the best-fitting paraboloid, two different cases for the best rigging angle, conditions and structural shapes for homologous design, some objective functions and optimum methods in the design of the statical optimization, and the frequency design method and the optimum method for frequency as a constraint or an object function in the dynamical optimum design. All of these methods play important roles in raising efficiency of the design of the antenna structure and improving performances of antenna. Furthermore, the paper points out some problems which remain to be solved in the design of the antenna structures.

ZnS doped with rare earth ions is an important luminescence material. But very few works have been done in finding their Judd-Ofelt parameters so far. The reasons are:(1) The solubility of rare earth in ZnS is so low that it is difficult to measure the absorption spectrum. The standard method to get s from the measured absorption spectrum is unavailable. (2) It is well known that rare earth ions form a variety of luminescence centers in ZnS. These centers may have different s and their spectra may sometimes...

These centers may have different s and their spectra may sometimes overlap.Along with the progress in experimental technique and the gain of the knowledge about luminescence centers in ZnS:RE, these difficulties could be overcome at least for some rare earth ions.An alternative way to get Judd-Ofelt parameters is from the emission spectra. The integrated intensity of the emissicn from |e>to|i> can be written as:where Wci, oci and Rci are transition rate, wavenumber and measured relative intensity of the transition |e>-| i> , respectively, hcCe is a constant depending on experimental condition and the excited state. Since Wei can be expressed in terms of ,s, we havewhere nei is the refractive index of the host at wavenumber oei,(e||U ( ) ||i) is the reduced matrix element,2Je+1 is the degeneracy of the excited state, Mei is the magnetic transition matrix element,which can be calculated theoretically. If there is an excited state of the rare earth icn being studied, which has more than four radiative transitions to the lower states, s can be obtained by least square method, fitting the measured relative intensities with equation(l), In this way, the s of Pr3 + ,Nd3 + ,Sm3 + , Eu3+ and Tb3 + in ZnS may be derived.The emission spectrum of ZnS:Sm3+ has been measured (Fig.1). The main spectral lines are from cubic substitutional Sm3+ center. The lines in the region 18000cm-1-12000cm-1 are identified to be from the transitions 4G5/2-6H5/2, 6H7/2, 6H9/2, 6H11/2 and 6H13/2> The relative intensities are 0.1667, 0.2066, 1.000, 0.0599 and 0.0118. Nonzero magnetic transition rate have been calculated. The best fitting giveswith these s, the transition rates from 4G5/2 to the lower states and their relative intensities have been calculated(Table 1).For the centers with Td symmetry, theoretical calculation has shown that Q2>>6, which agrees with our result. Large 2 value in ZnS is due to partly covalent binding between the rare earth ion and the ligands. It is stronger in ZnS than in typical ionic crystals.
