There are usually two methods in the analysis of the slope stability, one is the critical equilibrium method, the other is the numerical analysis method considering the stress-strain relation of the soil body.
The critical equilibrium method is doubted because it can not factually reflect the stress field and the displacement field during its instability process. While the numerical analysis method not only can provide character of the stress and displacement based on losing stability process, but also can give out the description of stability state.
Based on the balance of forces acting on interior earth fill of a counterfort structure, this paper proposes a theoretical calculation method of earth pressure on each member (including wall slab, counterfort and bottom slab) when the earth fill behind structure is in the condition of active critical equilibrium.
Definition 2 defines the margin of safety factor as the factor of the strength reduction,by which the shear strength of the soil would have to be divided to bring the slope into a state of critical equilibrium.
Via example, a conclusion as to the direction of sliding frictional force can be assumedin whichever state-static equilibrium, critical equilibrium, or sliding-is drawn.

It is shown that exploring critical equilibrium behavior of rock mass slope, influence of structural initial imperfection on post-buckling is in accordance with some conclusions of cusp catastrophe theory, and a method of determining displacement field of imperfection structure is presented on some condition.
When the critical equilibrium loses its stability, supercritical Hopf bifurcation occurs. Hence,a stable periodic orbit bifrcates from the critical equilibrium. At the same time, the condition of parameter to ensure the appear of Hopf(bifurcation) in Brusselator system was obtained.
Normal form method is an important tool for simplifying the ordinary differential equations; it plays an important role in the study of bifurcation and stability behaviors of the nonlinear dynamical systems near the critical equilibrium.
If the saturated adsorption capacities, largest adsorption capacities and critical equilibrium concentration can be correlated mathematically, the Department of the Enviroment will have a scientific basis to administer industries near the Xiangxi River.
The combined effect of forces and diffusional fluxes on the critical equilibrium of brittle solids weakened by thermally-insulated sharp-ended hole-type defects was studied.
A study was carried out for the problem of critical equilibrium of an infinite layer strained in axial tension and weakened by a system of parallel axisymmetric surface cracks.
In this paper the probability and ways of application in dynamic cases of the critical equilibrium theory comnonly used in statical analysis of soil strength and stability are discussed, the authors suggest on the basis of cyclic triaxial test results an idea of transient critical equilibrium in consideration of the cyclic loading properties. They find in the dynamic failure process the practical existence of the two characteristic points of critical equilibrium, the three s...

Bacausa ths friction effect of counterfort, earth pressure on the wall slab, in fact,is entirely different from classic theory(Cou-lomb or Rankine) which is used for calculating stabili...
The light emitted from a relativistic Keplerian ring around a compact celestial body should be affected by Doppler shift, gravitational redshift and deflection of light. Some optical properties of these relativistic rings may probably be the mechanism available to explain some astronomic phenomena. In reference [3], the line profiles for the Keplerian rings in the Schwarzschild case have been obtained with the result that there are two peaks in the line profiles. One is redshift the other is blueshift and t...
