In the process, first step is taken by making use of free acid in spent liquor to dissolve waste slag obtained during special steel processing. Thus, overall acidity of the spent liquor is reduced and recovery of valuable metals are augmented. Then wet air oxidation is conducted by introducing compressed air into the spent liquor in presence of inoculating crystal at pH 3-5 and a temperature of 70-80℃. Iron and chromium in liquor are separated from nickel and cobalt and removed by filtration in the form of solid oxides. The filtrate obtained is of weak acidity containing nickel and cobalt, and further conditioned to pH 8-9 by Na2CO3 powder or NaOH solution. Nickel and cobalt, are recovered in the form of their carbonates or hydroxides. The liquid to be discharged is colorless, transparent and of weak basicity.

The research on low-contaminant jarosite process of zinc hydrometallurgy is described in this paper. A comparison is made between the research results in our institute and those in Risdon plant in Australia. The problems are discussed on the advantages of this process and the recovery of valuable metals.
