The inhibition by erythromycin was noncompetitive with ADP. 2. Within the range of the erythromycin concentration which gave inhibition of ATP synthesis, there was no effect on the basal or uncoupled electron flow in isolated thylakoids,...

    The effects of erythromycin on energy-transducing functions of chloroplasts were investigated. The following results were obtained: 1. At the concentration of 10~(-4) M, erythromycin inhibited both cyclic and noncyclic photophosphorylation in isolated spinach chloroplasts. The inhibition by erythromycin was noncompetitive with ADP. 2. Within the range of the erythromycin concentration which gave inhibition of ATP synthesis, there was no effect on the basal or uncoupled electron flow in isolated thylakoids, while the fraction of electron transport stimulated by coupled phosphorylation was reduced to zero by erythromycin. 3. Erythromycin also inhibited with similar efficiency the ATPase activities of membrane-bound coupling factor. On the basis of these results it is concluded that erythromycin may act as an inhibitor of energy transduction of photophos-phorylation and that it's site of action may be near the catalytic site of membranebound CF_1 or ATPase.

Succinate was utilized as substrates of oxidative phosphorylation. Respiration rates of state 3 oxygen uptake and therefore ATP synthesis were found to increase with Vitamin E supplemented diet. Significantly less decline of ADP/O ratios and RCR was observed for group A than that of group B. These results suggest that Vitamin E has the effect of maintaining the physiological intactness of mitochondria of the cold exposed rats, and therefore may enhance the metabolic conservation of energy with the consequence of increasing the ability of cold tolerance of the cold exposed animals.

It was found that quantities of ATP synthesis were obviously increased by applying the external AC electrical field and the degree of the enhancement was increased with the duration reactive of the AC electrical field.

    在重复毫秒级闪光激发下,在测试叶绿体的ms DLE的同时,测定ATP的合成数量,发现外加电场时,ATP合成的数量明显增加,并随着外加电场时间的延长而增加。为外加交变电场诱导的膜电位参与ATP合成这一推论提供了直接证据。
