In this paper, a diode laser end-pumped continues-wave polycrystalline 1% Nd:YAG ceramic laser at 1.32μm is demonstrated. The lasing threshold is 2.1 W. With an incident pump power of 9 W, an average output power of 690 mW is achieved. The slope efficiency is 11%. To our knowledge, it is a 1.32μm Nd:YAG ceramic laser with a maximum output power which has been reported at present.

In this paper a novel development of solidstate laser and optical material on the basis of highly transparent NdYAG ceramics is introduced.Its absorption,luminescence spectrum,laser characters,as well as highly efficient continuous wave(CW) laser oscillation were investigated and compared with NdYAG single crystals.In particular,the experimental study on Ti∶sapphire end-pumped Nd:YAG ceramic laser passively Q-switched by Cr~(4+)∶YAG saturable absorbers was carried out.The Q-switched laser threshold is 119 mW at 1064 nm.At an incident power of 465 mW,the average output power of 61 mW is achieved.The pulse width(FWHM) is 16 ns,the repetition rate is 18.18 kHz,and a single pulse energy is 3.4 μJ.The experiment results were analyzed and discussed.With the improvement of the quality of ceramics and the optimization of laser design,highly transparent NdYAG ceramic would play an important role as well as NdYAG single crystals in laser industry in the near future.

介绍了近几年迅速发展的一种新型激光介质———透明Nd∶YAG多晶陶瓷的发展状况,对比分析了多晶陶瓷与单晶的光谱特性、激光特性和连续实验研究情况。并对钛宝石激光器调谐至808 nm,端面抽运Nd∶YAG陶瓷被动调Q全固态激光器的脉冲运转进行了较为详细的理论分析和实验研究。采用初始透射率为90%的Cr4+∶YAG可饱和吸收晶体,被动调Q的阈值功率为119 mW,当端面抽运功率为465 mW时,获得波长为1064 nm,脉宽为16ns,重复频率为18.18 kHz,单脉冲能量为3.4μJ,平均输出功率为61 mW的稳定调Q激光输出。采用不同初始透射率的Cr4+∶YAG晶体进行了实验和对比分析。

The suppressing effect of laser extraction on the non-radiation transition process is taken into account when the heat model of gain media is developed. Based on the developed heat model, the heat generation in the operating LD side-pumped Nd:YAG ceramic lasers is quantified through using the normalized heating parameter, which can be deduced from the experimental results of the slope efficiency and the absorbed pumping power of the gain media. Based on the developed heat model, the heat generation in the operating LD side-pumped Nd:YAG ceramic lasers is quantified through using the normalized heating parameter, which can be deduced from the experimental results of the slope efficiency and the absorbed pumping power of the gain media. The main factors which influence on the heat generation are investigated by studying the normalized heating parameter, and the results show that the changes of the laser extraction efficiency, the beam overlap efficiency and the Nd~ 3+ concentration will result in obvious variations of the normalized heating parameter. In this work, the laser extraction efficiency increases to 0.905 by the optimization of the transmission of the output coupling, and the normalized heating parameter decrease to 0.474, correspondingly.

考虑激光提取对介质内非辐射跃迁的抑制作用,建立和完善LD侧面抽运Nd:YAG陶瓷激光器运转条件下增益介质的发热模型,通过实验测量激光器斜率效率和增益介质吸收的抽运功率来推导出归一化热参数.通过归一化热参数,讨论了影响Nd:YAG陶瓷介质内热沉积的主要因素,研究结果表明:增益介质内热沉积对激光提取效率、交叠效率以及掺杂浓度的变化比较敏感.为有效减少热沉积,对所研究的掺杂原子百分比浓度为1·0%的Nd:YAG陶瓷多模激光器的输出耦合镜进行优化选择,激光提取效率提高到0·905,归一化热参数降低到0·474.研究结果可为进一步研究陶瓷激光器中热效应以及冷却方案设计等提供一定参考.
