The causes are analyzed. A new control approach is presented with a "local strain compensation" and a low cutoff frequency inertial link feedback in place of the differential one. The subsequent experiments on a piezoelectric beam show that the structural modal damping ratio can be promoted significantly....

A beam bonded with distributed piezoceramic wafers as actuators and sensors is referred to as a piezoelectric beam. The frequency response function matrix of the beam from the actuator driving voltages to the sensor ouput voltages is derived, which is used as the dynamic model of the piezoelectric beam in its active vibration control design. A multiple input and multiple output control approach is presented to suppress the vibration of the beam subjected to a slowly changing periodic dynamic turbulence. Based on the real time identification of the frequency response function matrix, the approach was realized in a test of a two input two output piezoelectric beam undergoing vibration with multiple harmonics and multiple modes, and the satisfactory results were obtained.
