Pumping by a 809 nm laser diode, the thermal tip generates a maximum temperature of 465° in air (with pumping power of 1124 mW) and 98° in egg white (with pumping power of 933 mW), which is high enough for laser thermotherapy.
Basing on the view of energy, the interaction of lasers with biological tissue and the process of developing laser heat source are discussed. The mico-mechanism of laser heat therapy are also studied. We go further into tissue temperature varying with laser and tissue parameter in laser irradiating, quantitatively, and put forward the theoretical basis of selecting treatment parameter in laser thermotherapy.
Transurethral balloon laser thermotherapy (TUBAL-T) has been developed recently as a noninvasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), but the cellular events occurrmg after TUBAL-T were not yet fully understood.
Objectives To explore morphologic changes of lesion interstitial laser thermotherapy induced and modification of the blood-brain barrier ( BBB) in the periphery of the lesion. Methods The lesion was induced in the normal rat brains by ILTT, morphologic changes of ILTT-induced lesion were determined by light microscopic and electron microscopic methods, triphenyltetrazolium chloride(TTC) stain, and modification of the blood-brain barrier in the periphery of the lesion was surveyed through Eve...
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of interstitial laser thermotherapy (ILTT) combined with cisplatin chemotherapy on rat glioma model with deeply sited tumors. Methods C 6 glioma cells were injected into the nucleus caudatus by stereotactic technique to induce transplanted gliomata in the rat brains. The rats bearing gliomata were treated with ILTT in combination with cisplatin. The survival time of rats was observed up to 40 days after ILTT, and the tumor size of rats at 7th day...
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of interstitial laser thermotherapy for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). Methods 100 patients with BPH were treated by interstitial Nd∶YAG laser thermotherapy from Nov 1993 to June 1998. The laser output power was 50 W. 1-6 points in a lobe were inserted and irradiated, 5 min per point. Results The patients were followed up for 3-24 months with satisfactory result. Amelioration of subjective symptoms and impr...
