Ⅷ~Ⅹ were unidentified hydroxy compounds. The △~4-3-keto compound (Ⅱ) is the main product when the medium is poor in nitrogen.

以剑麻皂素(Tigogenin)制得的中间体3β,17α,21-三羟基-5α-孕甾-20酮-3β,21-双醋酸酯(3)为原料,经诺卡氏菌№ 8018(Nocardia sp.№ 8018)转化为化合物S(1)及少量的△~1化合物S(4)。可采用两种投料方式:用乙醇溶解投料(乙醇浓度为发酵液体积的0.2%),或用固体粉末(粒子为1μ左右)投料(浓度为0.5%),产率均为50%左右。
