During the first Chinese national antarctic research expedition, there is a high whistler activity at Great Wall Station on Jan. 20, 1985 and valuable whistler direction finding data are obtained by using our GM type VLF broadband receiver.The continuous observation from 17h20m to 18h50m shows that the exit points of whistler are situated in a strip of about 80 km wide in longitudes with an azimuthal direction 20°-40° E of N between 47.6° and 52.0° geomagnetic latitude. The ducts are all in the same strip...

A new mechanism for exciting the Broadband Electrostatic Noise (BEN) in the strong spectrum branch (ω - ωeh) has been proposed in this paper. Satellite observations show that the local and transient dawn-dusk electric fields (LTEF) are often present in the plasma sheet boundary region of the magnetotail. Because the motion of the electrons in LTEF is adiabatic in the time scale τ (τ~'ωeh1-), while the orbits of ions may approximately be regarded as straight lines. The electron and ions will suffer different...

Because the motion of the electrons in LTEF is adiabatic in the time scale τ (τ~'ωeh1-), while the orbits of ions may approximately be regarded as straight lines. The electron and ions will suffer different response to the LTEF, causing the appearence of charge seperation between electrons and ions in the plasma sheet boundary region where the plasma is inhomogenous. A new kind of plasma instability will thus be excited which can lead to the generation of the BEN in its strong spectrum branch.

本文提出了磁尾宽频带静电噪声强谱段的一种新的激发机制。在等离子体片边界层中存在着瞬时的局域性的晨昏电场。电子和离子对该电场的响应不同:在电场存在的区域内,电子作回旋漂移运动,而离子轨道在的时间尺度内可视为直线。由于等离子体片边界层中等离子体是非均匀的,这就导致了电荷分离的产生,从而可激发静电不稳定性。本文通过求解含电场的Vlasov方程,计算了由此产生的不稳定波的频率和增长率,考察了波矢方向。上述计算结果均与强谱段静电噪声的观测特征一致。

In this paper the stochastic accelaration of ions in the plasma sheet boundary layer of the Earth's magnetotail by the broadband electrostatic noise is discussed. The calculations show that, due to the interaction with the noise, the trajectories of some ions in the phase space are stochastic. The area of the random motion in phase space is raleted to the amplitude, frequency and wave vector of the noise; through the stochastic accelaration, a part of the ions can be accelarated to the order of about 100...

In this paper the stochastic accelaration of ions in the plasma sheet boundary layer of the Earth's magnetotail by the broadband electrostatic noise is discussed. The calculations show that, due to the interaction with the noise, the trajectories of some ions in the phase space are stochastic. The area of the random motion in phase space is raleted to the amplitude, frequency and wave vector of the noise; through the stochastic accelaration, a part of the ions can be accelarated to the order of about 100 keV. These results may be used to explain the observations that some ions with very high energy exist in the plasma theet of the Earth magnetotail.

本文讨论宽频带静电噪声对等离子体片边界层处粒子的随机加速问题.计算表明:宽频带静电噪声会使离子轨道在相空间Poincare截面上一定范围内无规行走,该范围与扰动电场的振幅、频率和波矢有关;引起的离子随机加速使一部离子能获得较高的能量,在等离子体片参数下预计最大能量可达1000keV量级;对电子,随机效应不明显.该结果为等离子体片中高能离子的存在这一长时观测特性提供一种新的可能产生机制.
