A new species of nematode, Ostertagia (G.) skrjabini sp. nov., was found in the abomasum of the Chinese goat in Kweiyang and Tsinan. The specific diagnosis of the new species is as follows:Body filiform, yellowish when living. The cuticle of the body is marked with about 30 longitudinal ridges and without fine transverse striations. The cuticle of the anterior end is slightly dilated. Cervical and preburrsal papilla present.Male: Body 7.890-11.770 mm in length and 0.145-0.182 mm in the greatest diameter, and has a width at the preburrsal between 0.175-0.218 mm. Head 0.023-0.026 mm in great diameter. Nerve ring is situated close to the cervical papilla. Oesophagus 0.656-0.680 mm long and 0.049-0.059 mm in the greatest diameter. Bursa well developed with two large lateral and one small slightly depressed dorsal lobes and covered with bosses of different size. Bursa 0.332 mm in length and 0.300 mm in expansion, Latero-ventral and ventro-ventral rays almost equal in size, being separated in the proximal end, then getting gradually close to each other in the distal end and slightly curved toward the ventral side. The 3 lateral rays equally stout. Anterio-lateral ray slightly curved toward the veutal side, while the medio- and posterio- lateral rays curve toward the dorsal side and extend to the margin of the bursa. External dorsal ray large and stout in base, becoming gradually slender in the distal end, and being curved toward the dorsal ray. Dorsal ray 0.195 mm in length and bifurcated in the distal third into two branches, each branch subdivided into external and internal sub-branches at. the end the external sub- branch with a small papilla like structure in the outside. Spicules 1 pair, brown-colored, equal in length and of similar shape, measuring 0.251-0.280 mm in length and 0.036-0.039 mm in the greatest width. They are bifurcated in the distal third into dorsal, latero-ventral and medio-vcntral branches. The dorsal branch plate-formed, strongly chitinized and as large as the greatest width of the spicule. The distal margin of the dorsal branch rolls up toward the dorsal side, looking like a hook in the lateral view and like a inverted comma (') in the dorsal view. The latero-ventral branch is the longest, slightly curved to the ventral side, and surrounded by a transparent menbrane-like structure. Medio-ventraJ branch shorter and more slender than the latero-ventral, and without membranous structure in the distal end. 'Gubernaculum spindle-shaped.Female: Body 11.785-14.640 mm in length and 0.138-0.175 mm in the greatest diameter. Anterior end to cervical papilla 0.315-0.381 mm. Vulva slit-shaped, 0.129-0.175 mm to posterior end. Combined length of ovijectors including sphincters 0.249-0.415 mm. Anus to the end of the body 0.129-0.175 mm, long and pointed, slightly curved to the ventral side. Ova in uterus 0.072-0.082 mm in length and 0.040-0.050 mm in diameter.Host: Goat (Capra hircus L.)Location: Abomasum.Locality: China: Kweiyang and Tsinan.Type specimens: Deposited in the Laboratory of Helminthology, Institute of Zoologg, Academia Sinica, Peking, China.

Cuticle with transverse stations. Cervical papillae small. The head bears an armature consisting of six backwardly directed petal-like projections: two laterals, two sub-dorsals and two sub-ventrals. Free edge of each petal-like ornament possesses three tooth-like structures. The buccal cavity has six papillae at its sub-dorsal, sub-ventral and lateral.Male: Body 5.943-6.111 mm in length and 0.168-0.189 mm in the greatest diameter. Oesophagus 0.462-0.752 mm in length and 0.059-0.077 mm in the greatest diameter. Bursa well developed with two large lateral lobes and one small dorsal lobe, and with complicated vein-like striations. Latero-ventral ray larger than ventro-ventral ray and extending to the margin of the lobe. The 3 lateral rays extend from the main stalk, the anterio-lateral and midio-lateral rays almost equal in size. Postero-lateral ray stout and short. The external-dorsal rays are short and thick. They become narrowed in the distal end and curved toward the middle. Dorsal ray quite slender, originated with two branches and combined in the middle, up to the distal end where again divided into two branches with bidigitate terminations. Spicules one pair, brown, stout and unequal. Left spicule 0.109-0.123 mm long, right .spicule 0.113-0.138 mm long, each divided in the middle into three unequal branches: two shout and sharp dorsal branches and one long and thick ventral branch. They are terminated with out ends. No gubernaculum. Genital cone well developed and situated at the ventral side.Female: Body 7.98-11.85 -mm in length and 0.166-0.252 mm in the greatest diameter. Oesophagus 0.840-0.953 mm in length and 0.064-0.077 mm in the greatest diameter. Vulva silt-shaped, no liguleli'ke process. Combined length of ovijectors and sphincters 0.175-0,441 mm. Anus to the end of body 0.108-0.162 mm long. Body narrows rapidly behind the anus and is bent ventrally. Ova 0.077-0.081 mm long and 0.042-0.047 mm in diameter. An investigation on the relation between blood digestion and ovarian development and the influence of its parasites on the reproduction in the blood-sucking midge Culicoides riethi Kieffer in Chungking was carried out during 1960 to 1962.Fat reserves were not found in females in winter months,and blood feeding and oviposi-tion were continuous except in a short period from January to February.Except in January there are at least two recurrences of the gonotrophic cycle in every month.Out of 5,112 adult females dissected monthly from July,1960 to June,1961,5,015 (98.06%) showed the existence of gonotrophic harmony and 63 (1.23%) showed disharmony.However,gonotrophic dissociation was-also noticed in 36 females (0.70%).The phenomena of gonotrophic disharmony and dissociation appeared almost in every month.There were three species of parasites of Culicoides riethi in Chungking:an.ectoparasitic mite,an endoparasitic ciliate (Blantidium sp.) and an entomorphilic nematode belonging to Mermithidae.Female midges in different developmental stages and physiological conditions were observed to harbour the mermithid nematodes which caused ovarian degeneration and sterilization of the females.In the sterilized female midges the nematodes may differ in number,sex and developmental stages.

在重庆地区的自然条件下,观察李拭库蠓血液消化和卵巢发育间的关系及寄生虫感染和卵巢发育间的关系。李拭库蠓雌虫并不滞育,冬季也不发生脂肪的积聚;除了1—2月间较短时期外经常吸血和产卵。在繁殖期内生殖营养环具有二次以上的重复现象。生殖营养协调、失调和生殖营养分解率,各占全年总剖检数的98.063%;1.23%和0.70%。生殖营养失调和分解现象几乎全年均能查见。 李拭库蠓有三种寄生虫感染;它们是体外寄生性螨类,体内寄生的原生动物——小袋纤毛虫和嗜虫性线虫——铁线虫。铁线虫感染,可在雌虫的不同年龄和生理龄期中发生。铁线虫是一种病原体,使雌虫卵巢退化和萎缩,引起昆虫宿主的不育。不育现象不受铁线虫数量、发育期(成虫、幼虫)和性别的影响。
