The southern margin fault of Kunlun zone, located between the East Kunlun block and the Bayan Har block, is a very complicated structural zone with multistage deformation. It is mainly represented by a farce-scale intercontinental sinistral strike-slip shear zone. It developed from a paleoplatc subduction zone, and thus is a very important boundary between the two tectonic units. This fault zone is characterized by a complex strain style and great change in shear rate, including early ductile...

The southern margin fault of Kunlun zone, located between the East Kunlun block and the Bayan Har block, is a very complicated structural zone with multistage deformation. It is mainly represented by a farce-scale intercontinental sinistral strike-slip shear zone. It developed from a paleoplatc subduction zone, and thus is a very important boundary between the two tectonic units. This fault zone is characterized by a complex strain style and great change in shear rate, including early ductile strike-slip and later brittle strike-slip deformation, and the distance of displacement along its strike is at least 110 km.Syntectonic granite developed during the intensive shearing of this fault zone. From the geological and isotopic data, it is inferred that the fault began to be active in the Indosinian period. Four major stages of tectonic movement have been distinguished, which are 200240Ma, 140-150Ma, 110-120Ma and 20Ma. Strike-slipping was accompanied with the uplifting of the crust, and, as a result, it caused the formation of specific structural pattern of the East Kunlun. The crust of the area began to uplift intensively after 20Ma or later.The South Kunlun strike-slip fault zone is an impertant consequence of intracontinental deformation after the collision between the East Kunlun block and the Bayan Har block. It plays a key role in explaining the orogenic process and tectonic evolution of the East Kunlun orogenic belt. Moreover, it provides essential information with regard to the mechanism of the uplifting and lithospheric shortening of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau.

The detailed studies of sedimentary features of the profiles through the East Kunlun orogenic belt from Golmud to Kunlun pass have revealed that the Early Palaeozoic strata along the southern Middle Kunlun faults consist mainly of the sedimentary wedges in the continental margin island arcs.The Wanbaogou Group,because of the discovery of Eurypterus and pyramidal and tube like fossils,integrated with the development and evolution of sedimentary basins,may be Sinian to Cambrian in age.The upper part of the group where there are greyish white algal dolostones and siliceous dolostones with algal lamination and tepee structures may be contrasted with the regional Sinian dolostones in South China,displaying the characteristics of the global fashion facies during the Late Sinian.There is a series of sandstones interbedded with intermediate basic volcanic rocks,limestones and siliceous rocks at the uppermost of the group,which may be Cambrian in age.The Nachitai Group is of Middle Ordovician to Early Silurian age(Lin Baoyu et al ,1993),and comprises three formations in an ascending order.The Shuinichang Formation represents the rapidlytransported channel sandstone sediments in the lower part,and the carbonate platform sediments on the open platforms and deep water ramps in the upper part.The lower part of the Shuinichang Formation records the upward transition from turbidity outer fan to mid fan,and to the carbonate ramp sediments.The two formations cited above represent two major cycles of sea level rise and fall.The Halabayigou Formation may further be divided into southern and northern members:the former may be of Late Ordovician age,and composed of greyish green phyllites intercalated with carbonate debris flow and coarse terrigenous debris flow sediments with abundant intermediatebasic and acidic volcanic rocks,indicating the reactivation of the volcanic island arcs.The latter may be of Early Silurian age,and consists of a sequence of thick terrigenous clastic turbidites.A number of palaeocurrent indicators show that the principal source of debritus lay to the northeast.The Xiaonanchuan Group lying behind the volcanic island arcs may be Ordovician to Silurian in age,and dominated by phyllites and sandstones intercalated with volcanic rocks,occasionally with the carbonate debris flow deposits,which are interpreted as the shallow marine shelf sediments in back arc and back arc remnant basins.

East Kunlun orogenic belt is one of the two metallogenetic provinces in the giant Kunlun metallogenetic belt.Based on the discussion of tectonic environment,sedimentary formation and magmatic activity,we have studied some gold metallogenetic prospective provinces,such as Qumianleike,Yaziquan,Kumubayan and Shixuejian in detail.Some exploratory directions in these areas have been proposed.

东昆仑地区是昆仑巨型成矿带中2个重要的成矿区之一,从大地构造背景、沉积建造、岩浆活动等成矿地质条件的分析入手,对东昆仑地区的求勉雷克成矿远景区、鸭子泉成矿远景区、库木巴彦成矿远景区和石雪尖成矿远景区的金矿成矿条件进行了初步的探讨,指出了找矿方向。
