Par-ticularly pebble-debris. layer obstructed at the bottom of the graded member contains much pebble debris of phosphorites and collophane arenites, the content of which is abundant and forms pebble-debris phosphorites filled with clay and dolomite. It is a storm current car-rying a great number of sediments by storm wave rushing upon the phosphorus-accumula-ted shallow beach on the platform margin: toward the sea the storm current migrates and accumulates into the adjacent shallow continental shelf area under the action of gravity sorting.

宜昌莲沱地区早震旦世南沱冰碛岩,位于鄂中古岛陆西部冰川前缘地区。南沱中期,第二次冰退阶段,该区处在冰前冰川湖泊的湖岸地带,具有局部低洼的平坦地势、气候寒冷干旱,风力沉积作用时有发生。湖岸带发育小型风成砂丘。砂体呈断续的透镜状和似层状,保存在冰湖相的含砾粉砂质粘土岩中。这种砂体在莲沱镇北王丰岗南沱组剖面之东出露良好。
