Wuyuan County is situated at the northeast of Jiangxi Province, at the latitude of 29°01′~29°35′N and the longitude of 117°22′~118°11′E. It is one part of the East China Flora and lies in the north of “middle subtropical region” of China. According to the author′s study, about 615 species of woody plants(incl.varieties and forms) occur in this area, which belong to 94 families and 240 genera. Apart from some exotic and cultivated taxa, these species are turned into 235 genera. The total number of the genus can be classified into 13 types of floristic elements according to Prof. Wu Cheng Yih′s opinion. The percentage of tropical composition genera(42 6%) is much bigger than that of temperate ones(21 3%), which shows that the flora in Wuyuan County has a striking tropical feature.

The elevations of ancient sea level were-35- 50m during Q13,- 25 ~ -30m during Q23-2,and -15~-20m during 8 000 a B P. Some shell layers dated 5 520 a B P. at an elevation of 0. 5~1.2m indicate that the sea level during 5 000 a B P. had been close tO that at present and then fluctuated with slight descent. According to the tidal data from 1950 to 1996 in Hong Kong, in which the data during 1953 ~1956 are not so reasonable and therefore they are rejected, a rate of sea level rise of 2. 0 mm/ a during 1959~ 1996 is calculated. In combination with the long series of tidal data of about 70 years (1925 ~ 1996) in Macao, a curve of sea level change in Hong Kong and Macao area can be established, and the rate of sea level rise during 1925~1996 is 1.8 mm/a.

Much more genera including 1 or 2-9 species and their ancient origin,display the high protected value; 4. Those plants mainly exist in marginal areas and mountains in the province. As accompany species or subordinate species they are closely dependent on forest environment; 5. The available values lead to them to easily destroyed directly; 6. Correspondence between distribution of REP with arrangements of the nature reserves suggests that REP is able to be protected in-situ effectively, if those nature reserves can give off protective functions.
