In this paper,the testing principle of the WGF-Ⅱ type micro-computer automatic separator for steel and iron based on the princlple of initial magnetic permeability was described. With this separator the hardness of structural steel such as 40Cr, 45 and 65Mn etc. was tested. Therefore the difficult problem of the"N"shape relation between hardness of structural steel and the displayed value on both domestic and foreign permeability instruments has been solved.
