Feeding, digestion and metabolic experiments were conducted in 3-, 4-, 5-, 8-year-old male sika deers from 1982 to 1985. The results indicated that when diet protein level was 23% and protein-energy ration 54% for the 3 - or 4 - year-old deers, their antler output, .body weight and feed conversion were significantly higher (P< 0.05) than those of any other treatment group. For the 5-year-old deers, when protein level was 19% and protein-energy ration 45%, the antler output, body weight gain and feed conversion of the diet were the highest. For the 3- or 4-year-old deers, when protein level was 23%, the energy and protein digestibility of the treated group were the highest. A 19% diet protein level was optimum for the 5- year-old deers. The energy metabolic and nitrogen retention rates were consistent with the above-mentioned results. The present experiment indicated that only a small part of nutritional substances (0.098-0.192% of metabolic energy and 0.37-0.68% of nitrogen) which the sika deer took in daily was used for antler growing. However, diets of different protein level and protein-energy ratio had a great influence upon body weight gain, antler output and the digestion and metabolism of various nutritional substances. During the antler growing period, the diet whose protein-energy ration was 53-54% and protein level 23% was suitable for the 3 or 4- year-old deers; the diet whose protein-energy ratio was 45% and protein level 19% was suitable for the 5-year-old deers.

There were 2 or 3 groups of experimental hens in each batch of experiment, every group of hens was provided a special kind of feed containing a certain level of nutrition. The method of collecting all the chicken droppings was used in the experiments. While collecting the droppings, the number of laid eggs, the weight of eggs and the weight of fallen feathers were counted up. The metabolic experiments were conducted in combination with the comparative slaughter experiments and the feeding experiments. The period of metabolic experiment was four days for each group of hens. According to the data from the experiments and referring the formula used in Japanese Standard of Chicken Feed, the demands of coarse protein for laying hens with different laying rates in the cold and warm seasons, and the contents of coarse protein in different kinds of feed wer?calculated. The results showed that, although the contents of coarse protein in various kinds of feed were different, the demands of coarse protein for laying hens in different season were similar.

We recommend the feeding standard for the laying hens in the cold and warm seasons by fully comparing and referring some referance materials at home and abroad. The standard showed that the feeding standard supplied in different seasons differed, and that the ratio of egg energy was obviously-changed, and that the general trend was that the metabolic energy content of the forage was higher in the cold season than that in the warm season, but the coarse protein content was higher that in the warm season than in the cold season.
