The illusionary lines are physically present because of the two-dimensional spatial filtering characteristics of the visual system. (2) 2-D spatial filtering analysis. (a) if the MFF of the optical part of the visual system is known, we should be able to simulate the optical filtering properties of the eye; (b) Simulation of the illusionary contour in the Kanizsa triangle by spatial filtering is diseussed; (c) The relation between visual acuity and contrast sensitvity is discussed and the role played by high spatial frequencies in letter identification is determined; (d) The compensation of visual distortions is discussed.
