The vegetative organs still kept a dominant position in growth during the stage of seed formation fin about 10 days after heading), accumulating 22.9% of the total photosynthates, in contrast to the growing seed, accumulating 5.8%. Different organs ranged in the order stem > sheath > blade in terms of accumulating rate of photosynthates, and in the order blade > stem > sheath in terms of export rate. The accumulating rate and export rate per unit length of setm were highest in the 1st internode from the top, and dropped gradually in the descending internodcs. The development process of the seed was divided into three stages. The growth of stem and leaf and the devel-opemnt of seed were described with different equations.
