It investigates the use of language learning strategies by a group of English majors in a teachers' college. The emphasis lies on knowing the general situation of overall strategy use and six strategy categories and on the effect of strategy use on proficiency level, gender and some background information.
(2) There is a significant difference in the overall strategy use between boys and girls. The frequency of strategy use of girl students is higher than that of boy students, especially for the affective strategies and communicative strategies.
3) as for the three learner variablesexamined in the present study, only gender has a significant impact on learners'strategy use, while age and grade merely demonstrate very low negative correlationwith overall strategy use of the college English learners; at the category level and as awhole, female college English learners use learning strategies at significantly higherfrequencies than male ones;
