The ob-served data and investigation demonstrate the difference in time, place, frequency and in-tensity of their occurrences.Two main flash floods are put forward, they are rainstorm flash flood (RFF) and glacier lake outburst flood (GLOF) by two cases of flash flood in the two tributaries of the Tarim river presented in this paper. It analyses and compares the causes and the develop-ment of the two kinds of flash floods. Through further discussion about influence of flash floods on the main channel of the Tarim River, conclusion can be drawn that the greatest flood in record of the main channel come from the GLOF of the upper reaches of the Kun-malik River, especially augmented by great ablation flood. Finally the advantages and dis-advantages from flash floods to the environment of the catchment are demonstrated in the paper.

It analyses and compares the causes and the development of the two kinds of flash floods. Through further discussion about influence of flash floods on the main channel of the Tarim river, conclusion can be drawn that the greatest flood in record of the main channel come from the GLOF of the upper reaches of Kunmalik river, especially augmented by great ablation flood. 2. General floods easily lead to flood hazards. Through the analysis on the flood-flowing ability of the river course and the example of great hazards in 1986, it suggest that the water resource management need strengthening in the alternation year from low volume water to high volume flow. 3.Relation to the fresh water resources in the northern part of the Taklimakan Desert and 4. Concerning the environment of the lower reaches of the ricer. it is researched that fresh water in the abandoned channels of the river has obtained supplement from the annual floods through two ways. Harnessing flood is the key problem to the improvement of the environment of lower reaches.

通过对新疆洪水资料的搜集整理,分析了新疆南北疆洪水的成因及其特点,按成因将新疆洪水类型分为暴雨洪水、季节性积雪融水洪水、高山冰雪融水洪水及雨雪混合洪水,高山冰雪融水洪水又分为"溃坝型"洪水和冰川融水型洪水,并分析了各类洪水的发生地区、时段及其特点,洪水防治可以根据其特点采取相应的对策.
