Computer simulation indicates that, when the rate is reduced to 3.18 bit/pel, the objective ratio of signal to quantizing noise is 44.78dB, and the ratio of weighted signal to quantizing noise is 54.16dB. The performance of the predictor with adaptively changeing coefficients...

This paper presents an adaptive prediction coding scheme for the image signals regarded as a high order nonstationary Markov process. The prediction coefficients change adaptively with the local structure of the image near prediction point. Computer simulation indicates that, when the rate is reduced to 3.18 bit/pel, the objective ratio of signal to quantizing noise is 44.78dB, and the ratio of weighted signal to quantizing noise is 54.16dB. The performance of the predictor with adaptively changeing coefficients is better than that of plane three points optimal linear predictor and can meet the transmission standards of codes for the PAL colour television Y signals. The error code diffusion pattern caused by channel error code will change with the image structure, but its diffusion is less than that of the fixed prediction codes.

The initiating magnitude of this error pattern is determined by the characteristic of the quantizer, the codeword assigment and the bit position in the error. Due to the unequal probability distribution of quantized predictive differences and the nonlinear characteristic of the quantizer different schemes of the codeword assigment have different effects on the initiating error magnitude. In this paper four schemes of the codeword assigment are compared on the condition, that a sample has not more than one error bit. The comparison shows that the SM (sign-magnitude) code is the best one in these four schemes, generates the smallest average error magnitude and can reduce the visibility of channel errors.

由于DPCM解码器的递归结构,当出现信道误码时,误差以一种特殊的误差图案形式在复原的图象中扩散。这种误差图案的初始幅值取决于量化特性、码字分配及出现差错的比特位置。由于量化后予测误差的不等概率分布及量化器的非线性特性,不同的码字分配方法对于初始的误差幅值有不同的影响。本文在每个取样中的错误比特不多于1个的条件下,比较了四种码字分配方式。结果表明,符号-幅值码在这四种码字分配方式中性能最好,采用这种码字分配方式可以得到最小的平均误码幅值,并可以减小信道误码的可见性。
