Much has been done on the research of advertising. However, no one has systemically explored advertising from the principle of politeness, for there is an assumption that advertising is one way communication. In this paper, we try to inquire into advertising in the framework of interpersonal communication, and hold that the basic principle that functions in the language of advertising is the politeness principle and implicature derived from indirect speech serves this principle.
