A Robust M-Detector is proposed in terms of the modified Neyman-Pearson criterion. The proposed optimum detector has an obvious advantage over the classical detectors in the performance of constant false alarm when the noise distribution has changed or the noise level has increased. The test statistic adopted is a Robust M-estimator of the signal parameter θ. It can be derived by Newton's iteration method and can be realized by recursion.

A new noise model■ is adopted in this paper. The model reflects the practical noise distribution more objectively and more thorougly than the classical noise model. A finite sample Robust detector is derived in accordance with the model. It's applicable range and performance are discussed. The results show that it is superior to parametic detectors in the totality.
