Four distinct ring width classes made up thegrowth rate, which is further grouped into two types according to the sourcesof materials for ring width classes. One is from different radius lengths withina individual breast-height disk, and the other from trees with different averagering widths. Results indicate that growth ring age is a main factor controlling wood basic density, growth rate has fewer effects than growth ring age. Twotypes of growth rate actually show same effects on besic density, and the effec-ts are varied with not only the unite of sample (early wood, late wood or who-le ring) but ring width and growth ring age. Effects of growth rate on basic density of early or late wood are nonsignificant,but it shows greater effects on basic density of the whole ring. Basic density apparently increases with increasing rin width within the limits of narrow ring width. When ring width is larger than a fixed value--1. 5mm, basic density is less increased with increasing ring width, almost keepinga constant value more or less. Growth rate has a few effects on juvenile wood basic density. But the effectsgradually increas with increasing growth ring age, on mature wood basic densitygreater effects are found.
