This paper analyses the basic feature of the mixture formation and heat- release pattern of direct injection type diesel combustion and points out its affection,the roughness of working and smoke level of combustion properties. The author suggests a direction research which is to change the basic feature of the present Diesel combustion employing the fuel film atomization combustion instead of ordinary atomization combustion completing al1 the fuel injectionbefore ignition starts in the cylinder and keeping the ignition point right near the top dead center in order to get a near costant pressure combustion. The practical experiences have confirmed the new combustion system with a favorablel resu t on the reduction of maximum pressure in the cylider, the improvement of smoke and enhance the economic effect. For the purpose of further improvement of small, high speed, direct injection diesel combustion, it provides a very wide developing ground to test the fuel film atomization combustion system with conical injection instead of multiple holes injection.

Two new types of combustion systems--conical spray combustion system and fuel film atomization combustion system with squish lip are adopted for reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emission of D·I·diesel.
