Two strains of turnip mosaic virus were identified on rape in Kiangsu. They produced respectively systemic chlorotic spot (the chlorotic spot strain) and systemic necrotic spot (the necrotic spot strain) on the variety "Victory" of Brassica napella C. The variety "Victory" showed some endurance to the chlorotic strain in all seasons and to the necrotic strain in late autumn and winter. Two strains of turnip mosaic virus were identified on rape in Kiangsu. They produced mottling on Raphanus sativus L., Brassica campestris L. and Zinnia elegans L.; local necrotic spots on Chanepodium album L., Nicotiana tabacum L. var. Huangmiaoyu, N. tabacum L. var. White Burley, N. tabacum L. var. No. 400 N. tabacum L. var. Samsum and Gomphrena globosa L.; systemic chlorotic spots on Nicandra physaloides G., Physalis glabripes P.; local chlorotic spots on N. rustica L. They could not infect B. oleracea L. var. capitata L., N. glutinosa L., N. sylvestris S. & C., Capsicum frutescens L. var. grossum L., Datura inermis J., Cucumis sativus L., Phytolacca acinosa R.and Lycopericum esculentum Mill. The physical properties of these two strains were similar, thermal death point 60-65℃ (10 min.), dilution end point 1/5 10~(-1)—10~(-2), ageing period 2-3 days. They could be transmitted by the false cabbage aphid (Rhopalosiphum pseudobrassicae Dav.) and showed crossprotection on B. campestris L. It is probable that they are two related strains of the turnip mosaic virus group.

During the years of 1977-1980, a total of 128 flue-cured tobacco mosaic plant specimens were collected from the major tobacco growing localities in Kweizhou Province. They were divided into four groups according to their symptom expressions on six different host plants. One isolate (specimen) from each group was selected to represent the relevant group. Based on the morphology of the virus particles under election microscope, serol-ogical reactions physical porperties, means of transmission, kinds of insect vectors and host ranges,the four virus isolates were identified to be CMV,TMV,PVY and the tobacco veinlet banding mosaic virus (TVBMV) belonging to the virus group of PVY. The TVBMV was considered to be rather closely related to the tobacco vein-mottling virus repored by Sun et al (1974) in the U.S.A.The prevalence frequencies of the above mentioned viruses of the 128 isolates (specimens) were 42.2%, 18.0%, 10.2% and 13.3% respectively. There was 16.3% of the mosaic-like specimens which was not mechically transmitted.The tobacco mosaic disease caused by PVY was found to occur more widely in kweizhou Province than in some other provinces thus far investigated. This was considered to be due to the fact that both potato and tobacco were grown in summer in nearly all localities in the province.Ascording to the facts that the prevalence of the tobacco mosaic caused by CMV is by far the greatest and that there are already many tobacco varieties resistant to TMV, the authors therefore suggest that further research work hence forth should be directed more to the integrated disease management of the mosaic disease caused by CMV

The host range of HmVNV is apparently restricted to the cucurbitaceaeto the genus Cucumis,and the virus did not infect Cucurbita pepo.It induceda distinct veinal necrosis in varieties of Cucumis melo.The virus also infect-ed Vicia faba systematically,and induced local lesions on Chenopoium amara-nticolor and Gomphrena globosa.T.D.P 55—60℃,D.E.P.10~(-3)—10~(-4),L.I.V.3—6 days.The particle was shown a normal length of 660 nm andadiameter of approximately 13 nm.The green peach aphid Myzus persicaetransmitted HmVNV very efficiently in a nonpersistent manner from C.meloor Vicia faba to C.melo.In the agar double diffusion tests,HmVNV didnot show reaction with the antiserum of WMV-1 and WMV-2.
