This paper presents the newly realized ZO series zirconia oxygen sensors. Each of the sensors is composed of a close-end tube formed by bonding a zirconia oxygen sensing head to the end of a compact and percolation free alumina ceramic tube. These sensors possess not only improved thermal shock resistance capacity, but also oxygen ion sensitivity at high temperatures, and overcome the common shortcomings of conventional U-tube oxygen sensors.
