Quinaldinic acid has been employed in the determinations of cadmium, copper, iron, uranium, zinc, palladium, thorium and zirconium. Er(?)mets(?) as well as Majumdar reported that thorium can be separated from rare earth metals. As the properties of scandium differ somewhat from those of lanthanons, we attempt to use the said reagent in the determination of scandium.

本文报告用喹啉甲酸-[2]沉淀钪的适宜条件。找出定量沉淀钪的溶液酸度为pH4.8—7.0,钪与沉淀剂的克分子比为1:2.9卽能定量沉淀,但多至1:43亦无碍。文中尚报告数种阴离子、碱金属盐和重希土元素的影响。此外尚列有喹啉甲酸的钪和钍盐的热分解曲线。此两曲线形状很相似。钪盐曲线的两平台在(a)90—150℃和(b)670—1005℃;(更高的温度未试验)处,分别相当于无水盐和氧化钪。钍盐曲线的两平台在(a)120—150℃和(b)680—960℃(更高的温度未试验)处,亦分别相当于无水盐和氧化钍。文中尚设计钪与钍的分离和两者的测定法。此法系先用喹啉甲酸-[2]于pH3.4两次沉淀釷,继在pH7.0沉淀钪。曾测定氧化钪和氧化钍的重量比为1:1至1:6.6的钪、釷混合物,所得结果的绝对误差为-0.6至+0.7毫克氧化釷和-0.5至+0.4毫克氧化钪。

Spectrophotometric determination of scandium by use of sodium alizarin-3- sulphonate in presence of rare earths is described. Scandium and rare earths formed color complex with alizarin sulphonate, the wave length of maxium absorption is 540 mμ. The color is very sensitive to change in pH. When solutions are buffered at pH 1.5-2.5, only scanidium still form color complex but rare earths can't. The complex is formed within 10 min. and remains stable for 2 hrs. If presence of large ammount of sodium barium amonium or strontium ions may interfere the determination.
