It was composed of one-component liquid primer and one-component paste. Compared with the chemically cured adhesives, it is convenient for practical use, and its curing time is short. Objective: To firstly investigate the fluoride releasing characteristics of resin modified glass ionomercement for orthodontic bonding,and secondly to assess the fluoride uptake and subsequent release from the same material.Methods: There were three groups in this study. Two resin modified glass ionomercement (Advance and GC Fuji Ortho) and composite resin (DM) were used in each group respectively.Five standard cylinder samples were made for each material. From the first day to 12 th day, samples were immersed in de ionised water. Samples were firstly exposed to a fluoride toothpaste slurry for 10 min, then immersed in de ionised water during the 13 th ~15 th day. A fluoride ion selective electrode was used to assess the fluoride concentrations of each material in every day. Results: Both glass ionomer cements released measurable amounts of fluoride throughout the test period. The highest amount of fluoride released was on the first day, then it fell sharply, but the amount increased by 1.6 times on 13 th day (the 1 st day of samples exposed to fluoride toothpaste) The amount of fluoride released of GC Fuji Ortho was more than that of Advance, there were statistically significant differences between two materials ( P <0.01, t test ). There was no measurable fluoride release from composite resin, even after it was exposed to fluoride toothpaste. Conclusion: The resin modified glass ionomercement have the fluoride releasing and fluoride uptake and subsequent release characteristics in vitro . It is suggested that this material might have the effects on prevention of enamel decalcification and increasing enamel recalcification.
