The Guanhe River estuary, which has an irregular geometry and bottom topography complicated by the entrance bar, is open to the South Huanghai Sea (Yellow Sea). Tides enter the estuary up to the top at which four sluices were set up. Freshwater enter through sluices during flood periods, and mix with sea water within the inner part and the outer part of the estuary. The dominant wind influencing Guanhe River estuary is from NE, and wave induced current is expected from SE to NW. The longshore current of Guanhe River estuary, which includes tidal current, run-off and wave induced current, plays an important role in the formation of the entrance bar. Numerical simulation has been carried out for the Tidal current considering the influence of run-off and wave induced current. Some results of model verification and current calculation are presented here in the hope of giving a reasonable explanation of the entrance bar formation.The modeled domain included a trapezoid region 60 km by 40 km for the outer part of the estuary and a river section with three crosspoints at the upper end for the inner part.The computation was performed by 1D explicite characteristic difference model for the inner part and 2D 3 nodal finite element model for the outer part. Wave induced currents were calculated by considering radiation stress terms in the equation set.There is a close agreement between computed tidal current and the field data. The field data used for verification were derived from the observation of Guanhe River estuary in July 1985. The agreement between computed and observed currents is strong with regard to phase, flow direction and occurrences of strong and weak currents. However, the model generally underestimates the magnitudes of the currents of the entrance area especially during neap tides. The computed residual currents are in good agreement with those derived from observation. The wave induced currents were simulated and the simulated results are in good agreement with the results calculated by different formula.The computed current charts in the outer part, including those obtained with finer grids in the region surrounding the entrance bar, are presented. It is noticed that the existence of the river channel must influence the current pattern of the region around the entrance, although river discharge variations under normal condition have less importance to current patterns of the outer part. There is a small velocity area near the entrance bar. The small velocity area discovered by the tidal current simulation presents a reasonable explanation about the mechanism of the formation of the entrance bar.

In this experiment, the wave conditions, the wave-induced currents and the tracer sand dispersion were observed simulatiously.Based on the data obtained in this experiment some preliminary characteristics of sand motion on coral reef platform are identified in this paper. At first approximation, the rating factore between the advection speed of sand motion and the current velocity under the wave-induced current is 0.002 and the depth of mixing is less than 2cm. These values are much smaller than the previous results which have been observed on sand beaches elsewhere. Such differences are caused by: 1) the position for tracer releasing on the coral reef platform in this experiment is far away from wave breaking zone and the effect of breaking wave is much less significant than that in previous field measarements; and 2) the bed roughness on the coral reef coast in this experiment is larger than that on the sand beach for previous studies.

1995年10月在小东海珊瑚礁海岸的礁坪上进行示踪砂运移的现场实验。本次实验对浪、流以及示踪砂采样作了同步观测。根据所获的实验数据,分析了在9516号热带风暴天气过程礁坪上示踪砂运移的基本规律。在一级近似下,测定并计算了泥沙在波生流作用下的漂移速度与流速比因子为0.002,混合深度小于2cm。这一结果与其它已往结果相比明显小得多。通过现场比较,作者认为引起此差异的原因为:1)示踪砂的投放远离波浪破碎带,破碎波的影响很小,因此引起泥沙运移的动力条件比已往沙质海滩的示踪砂为弱;2)珊瑚礁海岸的糙率较砂质海滩大。
