Two series of investigations were carried out to determine some of the rumen metabolism abjustments in response to high environmental temperature on Chinese female buffaloes with rumen fistula in summer in Nanjing.Series I of experiments carried out on four regional buffaloes fed on herbage, showed that moderate high enviromental temperature ( mean 31. 3 C° ) reduced voluntary feed intake ( VFI ) by 17% and elevated rectal temperature ( TR ) , rumen temperature ( TRu ) and respiratory rate ( Rr ) , And did volatile fatty acid ( TVFA ) concentration from 8.55±0.89 to 9,46±0.43 mM.per 100ml ruminal fluid ( SRF ) and the ratio of acetic to propionic a-cid molar percentage (A/P) from 2,84 ± 0.03 to 3.38±0.17. As tie high environmental temperature continued for several days VFI was about half of the control, and TR, TRu and Rr raised progressively, Bot NH3-N and TVFA concentration reduced from 19.83 ± 0.92, 9,46 ± 0.37 to 15.69±1.07mg /100ml SRF, 7.60±0.65 mM/100ml SRF respectively and A/P from 3,36± 0.15 to 2.63 ± 0.06.It was indicated that ruminal njetabolism was elevated under the high environmental temperature which was tolerated by the animals and inhibited very seriously when the high ambient temperature continued for several days.Series I of experiments was carried out on three female Haizi tuffaloes fed on herbage in summer (mean TA 31.5 ± 1.0℃) and in early autumn ( mean TA 23.5±1.2℃ ) .As compared with autumn, in summer period Rr, TR, TRu and water intake per day were significantly elevated, aod VFI and rumen liquid flow rate were decreased by 23.8% and 36.0% ( p<0.05 ) respectively, suggesting that high environmental temperature had changed the ruminal metabolism which was regulated by animal organism particula-rly voluntary feed intake.During inhibition of rumen metabolism in heat stress, if spriskiing with tap water ( about 21癈 ) was given on whole body of the animals for half an hour, or the temperature in the rumen was lowered by icepack VFI and rumination would soon reappear and the NH3-N and TVFA concentration recovered.

利用南京地区夏季炎热的自然条件,连续两年在高温季节(7—8月)进行实验。第一年(系列Ⅰ)的实验动物为四头装置瘤胃瘘管的空怀母水牛,研究高温初期(27.5~33.4℃)和持续高温期(28.0~35℃)对水牛瘤胃消化代谢的影响。第二年实验(系列Ⅱ)利用三头装置瘤胃瘘管的海仔母水牛重复高温(26~35.3℃)实验。 夏季高温期间,实验水牛的呼吸率、瘤胃温度和直肠温度升高,采食量减少,饮水量增加,瘤胃液流速减缓。高温初期出现瘤胃代谢升高[总挥发性脂肪酸(TVFA)和氨氮(NH_3-N)浓度及乙酸/丙酸(A/P)比率升高]。但在持续高温情况下,水牛的采食和瘤胃代谢均明显抑制。采取瘤胃内降温措施(投入冰袋)或冷水淋浴,均能迅速降低呼吸率、直肠和瘤胃温度,恢复采食和反刍,并缓解瘤胃代谢的抑制。提示动物机体参与调节瘤胃代谢的变化,并为改善水牛夏季的饲养管理提供生理学依据。

反刍动物试验证明,瘤胃液含有17β-雌二醇(E2)、孕酮(P4)和睾酮(T)。E2抑制瘤胃代谢,而P4和T则提高瘤胃代谢水平。这些甾体类激素通过与瘤胃微生物细胞的相应受体结合而直接影响瘤胃内代谢变化。瘤胃液中只发现甲状腺激素的T3,而未检出T4,T3可促进瘤胃微生物代谢活动增强。豆科牧草和大豆含有植物雌激素异黄酮,可提高瘤胃内容物的菌体蛋白、TVFA和氨氮水平。瘤胃液及唾液内发现肽类激素如胃泌素。饲料蛋白在瘤胃内降解可产生一些活性肽,如外啡肽可能起肽类激素的生理作用。半胱胺可耗竭下丘脑和肠道的生长抑素,从而提高生长激素等水平,使瘤胃内代谢及蛋白质合成显著加强。因此,初步认为,瘤胃代谢受神经内分泌的调节,但尚有若干问题有待进一步试验阐明。
